Inaugural Procession
The Village of Belcarra embarked on the design of a Coat of Arms in 2004 to mark Belcarra’s 25th anniversary, which was officially presented to the municipality in a ceremony on November 8th, 2005, conducted by Robert Watt, Chief Herald for Canada. The Letters Patent also proclaimed the motto, “Between Forest and Sea”, as officially belonging to the Village of Belcarra. Permission to use the Tsleil-Waututh wolf symbol in Belcarra’s Coat of Arms was granted by the Tsleil-Waututh first nation and the symbol’s artist, Damien George. The Coat of Arms is unique to Belcarra and is a symbol of what Belcarra represents — its history and its future — and is about identity.

The Symbols: The Coat of Arms is comprised of a central crest containing symbols of a mountain, ocean waves, a conifer tree, and the Tsleil-Waututh wolf with drum, symbolic of Belcarra's aboriginal heritage. The supporters of the crest are a bear wearing a collar of maple leaves, symbolic of Canada, and a stag wearing a collar of dogwood flowers, symbolic of British Columbia. The crest supports a helmet with an English crown, symbolic of BC's colonial heritage, circled with shamrocks, symbolic of Belcarra's Gaelic heritage. Perched on top of the crown is an eagle with its wings stretched upward, symbolic of Belcarra's spirit. The crest stands upon bedrock adorned by sword ferns and salal, with a banner that proclaims Belcarra's motto “Between Forest and Sea”.
