FortisBC will soon begin work throughout the community to upgrade residential gas meters to wireless advanced meters.
Residents should be aware that FortisBC workers may need to access your property to complete the meter exchange. This work will be done by FortisBC and authorized contractors, whose vehicles will be marked with FortisBC decals.
Here’s what FortisBC gas customers need to know before the gas meter exchange:
- Most customers don’t need an appointment for the meter exchange.
- To assist the technician with their work, we ask that customers maintain a clear path to the meter and keep the area around it clear of items that may be blocking access.
- A FortisBC employee or approved contractor will install the new meter. This meter exchange will take approximately one hour.
- The technician may need to temporarily shut off gas service and may need to enter the premises to relight gas appliances once the meter exchange is complete.
If a customer is present, we can relight appliances right away.
If a customer is not present during the exchange, we’ll leave a number to call to have a technician return in a timely fashion to relight gas appliances, if required.
