Coquitlam RCMP Detachment Speed Watch Program
The Tri-City Speed Watch / School Speed Watch Program was established to address the increasing problem of "speeding" that is becoming all too common in our communities.
Are you aware that:
Crashes involving speed, kill or injure more people than those involving alcohol
Approximately 15,000 traffic crashes involve speed
Every year more than 200 people are killed and 8,000 injured
Speed Watch Program
Thanks to technology, speed limits can be monitored in your neighbourhood. In particular the Speed Watch Program uses portable RADAR equipment and an electronic sign for instant feedback. As the drivers go past the radar, the sign tells the drivers their current speed. It is an instant reminder of their speed, and an indication of whether they are going to fast for the speed zone.
As part of setting up a Speed Watch Zone, volunteers provide the RCMP with information about speeding locations. Schools can obtain volunteers by utilizing the display unit at house sessions.
